Recorded in the hush of an early rainy PNW morning commute—windshield wipers steady, traffic crawling—I riff on the elusive hunt for authenticity in a world that’s mostly smoke and mirrors. It’s a wandering drive through the fog of identity, AI illusions, soul signals, and lo-fi praise songs for the raw and the real. I ask: Are we just faking it 'til it's true? Do our souls punch through the noise for a brief glint of the actual? Somewhere between the static and the slipstream, I find myself fishing for gold content—Bricean style. Just a man, a mic, and the road to and from reality.

Something close to the veil. This podcast is a wild and far-out exploration of heaven, hell, and middles in between—because why not start with the big questions? My X gf sure did. And we break that down here just a bit for fairness.

As for Shannon, I was on my way out into the woods to capture our first recording. Maybe. Mostly, we just wanted to hang out and meet in person around a fire. The fire's already lit for whenever we get to it. No presh.

This theme song at the end of the pod was born before the show—a sound that somehow captured a deeper instinct, something ancient and alive. Wisdom, intuition, maybe even telepathy. And out of that came a phrase that stuck:

Shannon Knows.

It's become the shorthand for those moments when something clicks when you knew before you knew. When someone gets it right and you just nod and say, "Well, Shannon knows!"

Like the feeling when you think, "I KNEW IT!"

It happens in dreams a lot and with psychedelics. Like when you remember that you can breathe underwater or fly. Coming home. Back to God and everything we've always been. The air and the sun and the water and the people and the animals. Or whatever you speculate. That is all that this is. Fun times wondering about this or that.

Maybe this season will get more raw. I am sick of editing. Roll with it.

I went wild and free. The wind caught me at an angle, and I was told to bang on about something and nothing at all. What came today was a gift and an emancipation from the witch's (small case) ritual of seizing upon self-depreciation negatively. Not that I planned any of this. But the thought remains consistent in my stable. And the song bangs it into being all the more. The overwhelming idea here is, why not?

Welcome to the First Ever episode of Rooney's Lodgecast! Here, we dive into a special archival treat from the very beginning. It's 2012, and I'm joined by music producer Michael Starita. Michael and I have a rich history of collaboration, having mixed around 50+ of my songs during an intense series of sessions at Faultline Studios in downtown San Francisco. We met in a bar and often drank together. Consistent with my overbearing nature and current solo pod vibes, I'll be doing most of the talking and reminiscing about those marathon sessions and the magic that happened surrounding the experience. Some excellent information, fun times, and a detailed exploration of the recording arts caught on tape in a historic apartment in a crazy neighborhood during a decent cultural era of that region. This pod set the tone for all the storytelling, history, and personal insights that would follow. 

"Homer My Odyssey," is an unplanned spoken word journey recorded in my van while camping in the woods. Not typically a performer in this manner, but armed with a notebook, I read randomly selected lyrics that, as fate would have it, came together to sound as though they were meant to be. This collection, named in homage to Homer's epic poem, stands as a fun and eclectic addition to the Sekdek Podcast. Echoing the spoken word styles of Charles Bukowski and William Burroughs and influenced by the music and works of Leonard Cohen, this episode reminds me of the rich tapestry of voices that inspire my own.
This stark, serene, and rustic setting becomes a participant in the performance, adding layers of depth and ambiance that are captured in the audio, providing listeners with a visceral and immersive listening experience rarely appreciated in a world of overly well-crafted production standards.
